Welcome to Columbus, Georgia

If you’re moving to the Fort Benning area, there’s a good chance you’ll spend at least some time looking at homes in Columbus.

As the largest city in the area, Columbus offers the widest variety of neighborhoods, home styles, restaurants, shopping, and things to do. It’s also one of those places where two homes that are ten minutes apart can feel like they’re in completely different cities.

That’s why I always encourage buyers to think beyond the city name itself.

What People Love About Columbus

The biggest advantage of Columbus is variety.

Want a historic home with character? You’ll find it.

Want a newer neighborhood with sidewalks and community amenities? You’ll find that too.

Need to be close to Fort Benning? There are neighborhoods for that.

Want to be close to shopping, restaurants, parks, or healthcare? Columbus has plenty of options.

For many buyers, Columbus offers the most flexibility because there are so many different pockets to explore.

What Surprises People

The city is much larger than most newcomers expect.

North Columbus feels very different from Midtown. Midtown feels different from East Columbus. And all of them feel different from areas closer to Fort Benning.

I’ve had buyers tell me they loved one side of Columbus and couldn’t picture themselves living on another.

That’s completely normal.

Is Columbus Right for You?

If you like having options, Columbus is usually worth considering.

The key isn’t deciding whether you want to live in Columbus. It’s figuring out which part of Columbus actually fits your lifestyle.

About Me

Hey, I’m Alexandria.

I’m a Georgia and Alabama Realtor, military spouse, mom of two, and the person behind Fort Benning Home Guide.

My husband actively serves in the 75th Ranger Regiment, so military relocations and PCS moves aren’t just something I help clients navigate—they’re part of my family’s life too. I created this site to help military families make sense of neighborhoods, commute times, home prices, and life around Fort Benning so they can make confident decisions before they move.
