When people say they want to live in Harris County, what they usually mean is one of four very different areas.
And that’s important because a home in Cataula offers a completely different lifestyle than a home in Hamilton.
Cataula
Cataula is often the first stop for buyers who want a little more space without feeling too far removed from Columbus.
You’ll find a mix of established neighborhoods, newer construction, and homes on larger lots. For many buyers, Cataula feels like the sweet spot between convenience and breathing room.
Popular neighborhoods include:
- Mountain Brook
- Sonoma Pointe
- Hearthstone
- Ellerslie Place
Many buyers working in North Columbus find Cataula offers an easy commute while providing more house and land than they expected.
Fortson
Fortson tends to attract buyers who prioritize highly-rated schools and larger homesites.
The area feels more established, with mature trees, custom homes, and several neighborhoods that rarely see many homes hit the market.
Popular areas include:
- Callaway Woods
- Green Island Hills North (Fortson side)
- Beaver Run
- Heiferhorn Farms
Fortson is especially popular among buyers looking for a quieter setting while remaining close to North Columbus amenities.
Hamilton
Hamilton is the county seat and often appeals to buyers looking for small-town charm.
Downtown Hamilton has continued to grow in recent years while maintaining its local character.
Buyers looking for acreage, hobby farms, or a more rural lifestyle often begin their search here.
Waverly Hall
Waverly Hall is one of the most rural areas in Harris County.
This is where buyers often end up when they truly want land, privacy, and a slower pace of life.
You’ll find everything from historic homes to large acreage properties.
Is Harris County Right for You?
The biggest mistake buyers make is treating Harris County like one location.
The reality is that Cataula, Fortson, Hamilton, and Waverly Hall all offer completely different experiences.
That’s why I always encourage buyers to choose the neighborhood first and the county second.
